Academic of the
University of Montclair visits the U. Mayor to coordinate works of collaboration with the School of Theater 11 to 17 /07/2017
Heather Benton met with Leonor Lopehandías director of the Media Relations Department, Leonor Lopehandía, in order to schedule the work that will be carried out between the students of both schools and their respective exchanges.
After winning the"100,000 Strong in the Americas" a couple of months ago, an initiative organized by the US Department of State and Partners of the Americas, the University Theater received this week the visit of Heather Benton, Coordinator of the Theater Program at Montclair State University, New Jersey, to work on the development of the calendars that the project addresses and coordinate future student exchanges.
"Heather has been in Chile since Tuesday and we are working together to organize the work we will be doing with students starting in September. The idea is to create a great workshop that allows us to work at a distance in a first instance and for March to receive the students of Montclair here in Chile," explained the Director of Linkage with the Environment of the Faculty of Arts U. Mayor, Leonor Lopehandía, about the project, which is composed of two stages, one in the USA. And another in Chile.
Consulted by the works carried out jointly with the prestigious American university, the Chilean academic commented that "for us it has been a pleasure and we are proud of what we have achieved in these months. This is the result of a work we have been doing since 2012 and we are very happy."
It is worth mentioning that the achievement of the "100,000 Strong in the Americas" will allow the U. Mayor Theater School to expand a collaborative pilot program that took place last year, with the aim of creating a bilingual theater play that will be worked by young people from both schools.
A very fruitful agreement
The Director of International Relations of the U. Mayor, René Lara, highlighted how fruitful the agreement has been with the Montclair State University. "For 10 years the agreement with Montclair State University has allowed us to mobilize students, academics and authorities. In addition, we have twice won a project with Partners of the Americas. The first time was in 2014 through the School of Biotechnology, which meant the exchange of three professors and 16 students, who had a real immersion in the area of biotechnology, both in the university and in organizations dealing with the topic", Said the manager.
In the case of the School of Theater, the U. Mayor postulated with another 510 projects, of which only 11 were benefited.
Meanwhile, Professor Heather Benton expressed her hopes of establishing an "exciting artistic exchange between U. Mayor and Montclair State University, with the generous support of Partners of the Americas."
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to create a program with you that involves students from both institutions in the artistic process of developing an original piece of bilingual theater with student exchanges in both Chile and the United States," said the academic in a Message addressed to the director René Lara.
