From September 12 - 21, 2018 six students and two professors from the Theatre School at the Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile will be in residence at MSU to participate in the final phase of a three-semester exchange with BFA Acting students and faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance. This program, the Devised Theatre Project of the Americas (DTPA), was made possible by a generous grant from the U.S. State Department and Partners of the Americas as well as support from the Office of International Engagement and the Department of Theatre and Dance. The DTPA features the creation of a bi-lingual devised theatre piece over three semesters with exchanges in both countries.

In Spring 2018, 11 BFA Acting students, along with Professors Heather Benton and Debbie Saivetz, traveled to Santiago, Chile for the first exchange -- an eight-day collaboration culminating in a work-in-progress showing of the piece El Encuentro at the Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile.

This September, Professors Leonor Lopehandia and Gabriel Diaz from the Mayor and six of their acting students will join MSU in the Department of Theatre and Dance for the final phase of collaboration over eight days. El Encuentro/ The Encounter will receive a public showing and talk back on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 8pm in Studio 1200 in Life Hall.

The students from the Universidad Mayor include Daniela (Frani) Bascuñan, Gonzalo Burgos, Pablo Čančar, Martin Flores, Francisca Hagedorn, Noel Saint-Jean.

The students from Montclair State University include Jeanette Bednar, Martin Czajkowski, Sarah Gagarin, Anna Klein, Karlie Kohler, Jackie McCarthy, Natalie Roman, Andrew Russell, Liz Sayko, Cameron Style, Mary Grace Sumner.
